England South africa 3rd Test Day 3 Update 29 June 2008 |
|
|
At the end of Day 3 of the 2nd test between Sotu hAfrica and England, the match is poised delicately. A couple of quick wickets in the morning for South Africa and the match is pracitcally all but over. But if Collingwood and Ambrose can put on another 50 and we can limp to a 300 - 350 lead then England have a massive chance to keep the series alive. Early on today, Sidebottom had shot out the South African tail, and England got off to a disatrous start. Before they knew it, they were 3 wickets down before they even had a lead. Bell when after a brief partnership and this brought Collingwood to the crease to join Pietersen, who put on a fantastic stand of 115 at near enough 5 an over. Pietersen looked poised to get to a century against his home country, but attempted the glory shot over mid-on for 6 and was caught by AB De Villiers off Harris' bowling. A very soft wicket. 4 balls later, Flintoff had come and gone, batpadding a simple catch to Hashim Amla at short-leg. Ambrose came in at this point and Collingwood and Ambrose put on a gritty, unbeaten stand of 76 with Collingwood. Paul Collingwood was no doubt the player of the day with a vital century whilst under immense pressure, and reportedly playing for his England future. Hopefully the entertainment can continue and Test cricket can continue to be proved the highest quality form of the game. |
